Arc Finance Case Study: Faulu Advisory Services

Arc provided a $20K Catalytic Investment to Faulu Kenya, one of the largest MFIs in Kenya. Since the pilot’s launch in March 2010, Faulu Kenya’s new energy division has disbursed $150,000 in loans to new and existing clients, supporting the purchase of over 2,500 solar lanterns. This volume nearly quadrupled the division’s initial sales goal. The pilot has successfully laid the foundation for Faulu Kenya’s energy division as a permanent part of the MFI’s business. Arc Finance Case Study: Negros Womens for Tomorrow Fund

Arc also made a Catalytic Investment in the Negros Women for Tomorrow Fund, a top MFI in the Visayas region of the Philippines. Founded in 1982, NWTF serves almost 80,000 women clients at 39 branch locations. NWTF carried out a pilot energy lending program with both solar lanterns (with mobile-charging capability) and improved biomass cookstoves. Financing Sustainable Energy Through Remittance Flows in Haiti and the Dominican Republic

In 2009 Arc conducted market research to test the feasibility of using remittances to finance sustainable energy purchases in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Both countries have a strong diaspora presence in Queens, New York, and Miami, Florida, and focus groups were carried out in all four locations. The paper, published at the IDB (PDF), clearly shows the promise of using remittances for energy products. It forms the basis for the full pilot being conducted with the IDB.
